History of Computers

Computer की history बहुत पुरानी है। आज के modern computer तक पहुँचने के लिए computers ने कई stages और generations को पार किया है। शुरुआत में calculations करने के लिए simple counting tools इस्तेमाल किए जाते थे, जबकि आज computers बहुत fast, powerful और intelligent हो गए हैं।

1. Abacus

Abacus सबसे पुराने calculating devices में से एक माना जाता है। इसका उपयोग लगभग 2000 वर्ष पहले calculations करने के लिए किया जाता था।

इसमें beads का उपयोग करके addition, subtraction आदि किए जाते थे।

2. Napier’s Bones

John Napier ने लगभग 1617 में Napier’s Bones बनाया। इसका उपयोग multiplication और division को आसान बनाने के लिए किया जाता था।

3. Pascaline

Blaise Pascal ने 1642 में Pascaline नाम की mechanical calculating machine बनाई।

यह मुख्य रूप से addition और subtraction कर सकती थी।

4. Leibniz Calculator

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz ने 1673 में एक mechanical calculator विकसित किया। यह addition, subtraction, multiplication और division कर सकता था।

5. Difference Engine

Charles Babbage ने 1822 में Difference Engine का design बनाया। इसका उद्देश्य mathematical calculations को automatically करना था।

इसी कारण Charles Babbage को “Father of Computer” कहा जाता है।

6. Analytical Engine

Charles Babbage ने बाद में Analytical Engine का design तैयार किया। इसमें modern computer जैसी कई concepts दिखाई देती थीं, जैसे:

Ada Lovelace ने Analytical Engine के लिए instructions लिखीं। उन्हें दुनिया की पहली computer programmer के रूप में जाना जाता है।

7. Hollerith Tabulating Machine

Herman Hollerith ने punched cards का उपयोग करने वाली tabulating machine विकसित की। इसका उपयोग बड़े amounts of data को process करने के लिए किया गया।

8. ENIAC

ENIAC का development 1940s में हुआ और यह early general-purpose electronic computers में से एक था।

यह बहुत बड़ा था और इसमें हजारों vacuum tubes इस्तेमाल हुई थीं।

9. UNIVAC

UNIVAC early commercial computers में से एक था। इसका उपयोग business और government data processing के लिए किया गया।

Computer Generations

Computers के development को सामान्यतः 5 generations में divide किया जाता है:

First Generation

Period: लगभग 1940–1956
Vacuum tubes का इस्तेमाल होता था। Computers बहुत बड़े, expensive और ज्यादा बिजली consume करने वाले थे।

Second Generation

Period: लगभग 1956–1963
Vacuum tubes की जगह transistors आए। Computers छोटे, faster और more reliable हो गए।

Third Generation

Period: लगभग 1964–1971
Integrated Circuits (ICs) का उपयोग शुरू हुआ। Computers की speed और reliability काफी बढ़ी।

Fourth Generation

Period: लगभग 1971 onwards
Microprocessor के development से personal computers का growth हुआ। Computers छोटे और affordable बनने लगे।

Fifth Generation

Modern computers में Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing और advanced computing जैसी technologies का उपयोग हो रहा है।
