PARTS OF SPEECH

Noun – A word that represents a person, place, thing or idea.

Example: Dog, Mount Everest, Love.

Pronoun – A word that takes the place of a noun.

Example: He, She, It, They.

Verb – A word that expresses an action or state of being.

Example – Run, Jump, Is, Become.

Adjective – A word that describes or modifies a noun or pronoun.

Example: Beautiful, Green, Happy, large.

Adverb – A word that describes or modifies a verb, adjective or another adverb.

Preposition -A word that shows the relationship between a noun or pronoun and other word in a sentence.

Example – in, on, under, between.

Conjunction – A word that connects words, phrases, or clauses in a sentence.

Example: And, But or Because.

Interjection – A word or phrase used to express strong emotion or sudden exclamations.

Example: Wow!  Oh no! Alas! Ouch!
